Weatherstones Woodland is a private 5 acre woodland set within Haddon Woods in Ness, Cheshire West.
Weatherstones Woodland is bordered with fields and adjoining woodland, it is a secluded site that enjoys the sunlight coming in from the neighbouring fields. This has encouraged regeneration growth of indigenous deciduous trees along it’s edge.
The whole site has been used as a quarry for sandstone in the past and was planted as a Scots Pine plantation in the 1960’s. It is currently being thinned for timber production, to encourage growth of the regenerated understory and the management plan includes planting natural species to be part of a working coppice wood for the future.
The canopy consists of the plantation of Scots Pine interspersed with Larch, Beech, Silver Birch and Oak.
The understory comprises of Holly, Birch, Rowan, Silver Birch, and young Oak.
The ground flora is predominantly Bramble and Bracken, but also home to Honeysuckle, and a small amount of Bluebells.
